A 500.0 kg communications satellite is initially at rest on Earth's surface before it is launched into space. What is its gravitational Potential Energy at this point?
Use Formula PEG= - Gm1m2/R
G= 6.67 x 10^-11
m1 = 50.0kg
m2= 5.98x10^24kg (mass of Earth)
R= 6.37x 10^6 (Radius of Earth)
- [(6.67x10^-11)(50.0 kg)(5.98x10^24) / 4.22x10^7m]
PEG= -3.13 x 10^10
